Mr. Hines is the CISCO Networking Academy Instructor for Prince George's County Public Schools at Laurel HS in Laurel, Maryland. He also runs his own Educational / Athletic Academy to assist today's youth and adults in transitioning to a fast-paced, culturally diverse, growing IT environment.
Michael is responsible for devising, implementing, and managing the CISCO Networking Academy at Laurel HS. As the Networking Academy Lead, he teaches and trains approximately 30 students and 3 instructors each year. He has successfully assisted his students to obtain their CISCO certifications ( including CCENT and CCNA ) as well as A+ certification from Comptia. Each year he assists students to entry-level networking jobs and IT careers, as well as 2 and 4 year colleges.
His dream is to see students who have acquired the aforementioned skills implement them to obtain employment and increased opportunities in the global economy. His students obtain "real-world" experiences via multiple ways in his academy. They use real equipment as well as computer simulation software to program routers and switches to complete labs that build "real-world" experience.
His students also participate in the PGCPS Student-Built House Project, a project that opens many doors for students by allowing them to develop highly-marketable skills. The academy students install the wiring for Internet, Television, and Home Security services in the home. These skills are critical for student success in both college and in IT careers.
The network academy students also participate in SkillsUSA, an student-led organization whose mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible citizens. The students compete against other students around the world in IT competitions that are judged by America's workforce. His students form partnerships with students across the nation as well as teachers and industry professionals.
Prior to working for PGCPS, Michael spent over 12 years working for MicroCenter in Fairfax, Virginia as a Business Services Manager and over 7 years at The Computer Factory, a Fortune 500 company as a Branch Manager.
Michael also runs his own Educational / Athletic Academy that assists deserving students and adults alike that aspire to be our next generation of IT professionals. He teaches Cybersecurity and networking concepts to a diverse population and shares the same passion as CISCO Systems in developing leaders for the global market.
